Auditory response to a short click

Auditory response to a short click recorded from the tympanic nerve

Amphipyra perflua

The moment of stimulation is indicated by an arrow.

Responses of three different neurons within the tympanic nerve (cells A1, A2 and B) could be easily discriminated by their amplitude.

The response of A1 receptor to a single short acoustic pulse consists of up to four spikes. The latency of response decreases with the amplitude rise up to +10 dB above threshold and increases again with higher sound internsities.
